I don't see the UN as ever having had credibility beyond handing out food and medical supplies . . . name one conflict the Un actually resolved.

I also don't think the middle east can be "fixed". It is, after all, the result of a British plan to cut the region up into small countries based on not much more than their desire to cut the place up into small countries, coupled with a resident population stuck in a culture and mind set circa 1300.
