[Mishmash] Economic Slavery on the Highways

Many years ago, when i first moved to Washington DC and my parents were still
alive up in NYC, I spent a lot of time on the road between here and there. I
was a regular on Route 40 (before I-95 was even thought of) and the Jersey
Turnpike. I found that as a group, truck drivers were a lot saner
and predictable
than the guys in the cars. Truckers were pros; they made their living at what
they were doing and couldn't afford to act stupid.

As Hugh mentioned, there are exceptions. There's always a jerk in
the crowd, or
somebody who is so tired he ought to be sleeping instead of driving,
or some crank
who should be driving at all. But they're in the 4-wheelers too, and a higher
percentage, in my experience.

As for the "friend" who wouldn't listen to your opinions, Fred, I
think you handled
it exactly right. If he's so fond of his own opinions, he can talk to himself.
