I'm kind of simplistic, and also a New Yorker still waiting for Islamic leaders to disown actions.

The fact they have not says a whole lot.

  Hugh,

The Crusades were a very misguided bunch. They meant well, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

However, look at the good the Christian and Jewish communities have done in the world. The great majority of them do not believe in or support such practices.

Even today, though, there are people who says they are Christians and Jews that do not qualify as the same. Their beliefs clearly demonstrate contrary to what they say about their religion.

A lot of those hate groups spew what they call Christianity. But look at their actions. Their actions say differently. And what about Jim Jones and David Koresh? They didn't know God much less Christ. And I'm sure there are a few more extremists we haven't even heard of yet.

I didn't comment on the Islamic community because I don't feel qualified in that area (I'm not all that familiar with their culture).

Saddam's apprehension and conviction may lead to a change in world opinion. Let's hope so. If that happens, it will make the war on terror a bit easier (I didn't say easy, I said easier [than it is now]).

      Regards,

                                                                          Fred Atkinson

Just imagine if Christians acted as they did in, say, 1300 (remember the crusades).

We're about 700-800 years apart in cultural evolution.

            Well,

Saddam has been convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.

I can't say I'm suprised about that. But what I am surprised about is
how relatively calm (considering the culture) that Iraq has remained since
the verdict. There were some people (about a thousand, from what I've
heard) running around Baghdad firing AK-47s in celebration. But in Saddam's
home town, they carried pictures of Saddam and shouted 'Death to the U.S.'.

It'll be interesting to observe the changes in the world this week.

                Regards,

                                                                    Fred Atkinson
