[Mishmash] Almost 10 years ago...

Ah, but Hugh...I found a beaded headpiece/veil that cost me $120 and I still have it. It was/is gorgeous! She has seen it and wants me to keep for when she marries. :-) There's the something borrowed... and as for the dress...I must admit that I got lucky. A family business in Westwood was ending due to retirement and I got my dress for a steal! I tried that one on first and proceeded to try on a least dozen more that were 10 times the cost and went back to that one. It set me back $180. When all got said and done I hadn't spent over $500 for dress, veil, shoes, fittings, and other necessary bridal items. What can I say? I got lucky! Of course, Eric and I were determined not to spend an arm and a leg on the wedding since we paid for it. We wanted to spend our hard-earned money on the 4 week honeymoon to Australia/New Zealand. :-)

Let us know when the wedding is..we'll send you some wipes. ;-)

No . . .just give her the values to know thr "right" guy, sit back, turn yor wallet over, and let the money pour out!

Wait until you see a bridal veil (really a piece of gauze on a hook) and $150 an inch . . .or better yet the dresses, which "fit, just need alterations" at $400 a session.

At some point you'll step into the rest room and, based on the cost and time, figure out it cost you $750 to wash your hands during the reception!

Gee....just what I wanted to hear, Hugh. ;-) My daughter is already starting, having already picked her future husband. Should I be really worried now?

BTW, this crush started last year in kindergarten.

Thanks, Gale. Time does go by quickly. My 6-yr-old daughter, Rya, drew a picture recently of this boy Jimmy she has a crush on and herself and wrote on the top: "meread" (married). Oy!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your family, Gale.

Sorry I'm so late getting back on this Ingrid. Wow!! Where HAS the time gone. I originally joined mishmash in the summer or 1997 and I remember your post on Dirk's 1st birthday. And now he's ten!!! Many more happy birthdays to the young man.

          Gale

...Dirk was born. Yes, folks, in a few short hours (12:07 a.m. Eastern Standard Time) it's Dirk's birthday. It's hard to believe that 10 years has passed already and many of you were around when I Ieft for the hospital. He's grown up to be a pretty great kid who does well academically and already has a goal in life -- to be a Marine Biologist. Not sure that will happen since he may change his mind, but he sure does read an awful lot about fish! I've attached a photo of him we took on our trip to Canada this summer. We used this photo when he entered the National Geographic Kids Magazine contest for a trip next August to South Africa. Cross your fingers and say some prayers. He'd love to go and he did a great job with the essay he had to do for it. They choose 15 kids and 2 teachers and we think he's got a good chance. Of course, we're slightly biased. :-) If he does win, it'll be a battle in the Holzman house as to which parent will go with him. We can't afford to have the whole family go -- the trip is worth $20,000. They stay at very luxurious resorts - several hundred per night. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!
            Ingrid
