I remember being on a trolley in Melbourne. I took a picture and I was
focused on the toll collector. When I snapped the picture, I could see
smoke coming out from under her collar.
My pen pal Kim (who was on the trolley with me) pointed out that taking
someone's picture without asking in Australia is a very severe nono. They
may get just a little annoyed in the U.S., but only a very few get that
upset. To that end, I always asked or focused and waited until they looked
at me and smiled (which I interpreted as an 'it's all right, take the shot)
before pressing the shutter button.
But it was a good shot of her (the toll collector).
