Disclaimer: This is nothing about race or racial typing . . . just a guy names Hugh proving "assume" is really a three word phrase.
So, I'm at the stage with one of our products where we are looking for a source. Now the difference is it is both electronics based and a consumer product . . . the first meaning we can't use our regular sources, and the second meaning volumes are going to be far higher than anything else we do.
So, I go out looking, and find four companies that fill our need . . . two in the far east, and two in central america. All wirh US operations. I do the phone thing and web meeting thing, and start meeting with each.
One seems most promising, and I've "met" the four key guys several times on the phone . . . Steve, Jackson, Leroy, and Tiger. Here's where it gets "interesting". This company is located in Alabama, and all four of these guys sound just like Alabama . . . in fact, they all sound like they could break out in a good version of Old Man River without help.
Last might I met all four for dinner. I'm expecting the defensive line for a football team . . . I get four Chinese engineers who are the shortest people I''ve ever seen (baritone Jackson sounds like Dabid Ortiz and looks like south park).
Turns out I had it right . . . they are from the deep south. I just had the wrong country.
