[Mishmash] Professor Page

Would everyone like a lesson on public and private IP addresses?

PHP (originally stood for 'Personal Home Page') is a language that can be used on Websites to provide dynamic (as opposed to static content).

Dynamic content - changes each time it is used.

Static content - content is always the same.

I wrote a PHP script to use on the page so that it retrieves *YOUR* public IP address and displays it for you. That is why it says 'Your public IP address'. If it said, 'My public IP address' it would imply that it was the IP address of the Webserver where the page existed.

Standby for a brief on public versus private IP addresses.

                                                                    Fred

The email address that you see on that page is *your* public IP address,
not the address of the page. I use a PHP script to do that.

Over the years on Mishmash I've always gotten a kick when you all get into the technical lingo of computers and cyberland. I wish you all could see me reading all this and sitting at my desk like a deer in the headlights.
