these are some pics taken to get over the bridge on 136 (the main e-w
highway in central IL).  it's the only bridge over the mississippi between
quincy and the quad cities (around 150 miles of the river) that is open.
they have built this road up over 10 feet with sand, rocks and gravel.   the
water has receded a bit because of broken levees up river but there is still
a lot of water to come on down from wisconsin so it will be cresting again
in a couple days - maybe even higher.  my granddaughter has been working in
the flood emergency relief center in canton, MO all week.  she has to come
home this weekend to sing in a wedding and is worried about getting back
over the river on sun.   my one grandson has been living in keokuk, IA all
week because he works over there but has to come home tomorrow over this
bridge.  my other grandson has been filling and hefting sand bags all week.
it's a mess down here.  everything is great in carthage tho - except for all
the insurance adjusters showing up to inspect the damage from sunday's
storm.   one of my properties (an office and 2-bay truck garage) here
collapsed during that storm - no tornado, just straight line winds, lots of
rain and really big hail stones (rocks).
