Folks,

A very Merry Christmas to you all.

How many of you remember reading 'A Christmas Carol'?

A very nice take off on it (and one of my favorite Christmas shows) is scheduled to be on The Hallmark Channel at 2:00 PM EST on Sunday.

It is called 'Ebbie'. It is a contemporary rewrite of 'A Christmas Carol'.

Ebbie (Elizabeth) Scrooge is played by Susan Lucci (of daytime soap fame). She runs Dodson's Department Store in corporate America.

She has a female assistant named 'Roberta Cratchit'. Roberta has a handicapped son named 'Tim'.

Her dead partner's name is [appropriately]: 'Jake Marley'.

It starts out on Christmas Eve and very much parallels the story. She is a brutal, unforgiving boss who cares for nothing other than her balance sheets. She is haunted by three spirits thanks to the efforts of her departed partner Jake. Jake Marley is played by Jeffrey DeMunn who really is dynamite in his role.

Susan Lucci has really outdone herself in her role. Years ago, my mother and I sat through it together. As some of you know, my mother was an English teacher. She had a master's degree in English literature and was very passionate about literature. She was in tears over Susan's terrific performance.

My favorite of the three spirits that haunt her is 'The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come'. He is frightening and very effective in his role and finishes the job of making Ebbie wake up to the truth about Christmas.

    I hope you'll tune in.

If you are in other time zones, please check The Hallmark Channel Web site (http://www.hallmarkchannel.com) under 'Schedules' for Sunday. In my time zone (MST) and central (CST) it is at 1 PM. Eastern and Pacific are at 2 PM.

A very Merry Christmas to us all! And May God Bless Us Every One.

                                                                    Fred Atkinson
