According to one NY newspaper, that chimp was going to write the next recovery plan!

OK, so maybe its because I just spent two weeks with only fox news' "Red Eye" show for news (with delayed audio, no less), but something on the Today show this morning really got to me.

The weather national weather person came on and said (close to actual quotation):

"There is a high chance of thunderstorms in the midwest this afternoon. Now 5% of all thunderstorms get classified as severe, and 1% of severe storms turn into tornados".

On the screen . . . a map with a big "Headline: Thunderstorm Threat" banner.

Was that an NWS person, or the station meteorologist?

Some of the TV guys try a bit too hard to have a big impact. Remember the NWS definitions. A thunderstorm (or other) WATCH means conditions are right for the formation of whatever; it doesn't mean there are any of them already. A WARNING means they already exist and are in or heading into the warned area. On the other hand, THREAT probably doesn't mean anything specific.

Seems to me there is also about an equal threat to get hit by a flying ape.

Getting bitten by a nasty chimpanzee, OTOH, is a definite possibility. :-)
