[Mishmash] Temperature in Las Cruces

Folks,

They've issued a heat warning here in Las Cruces. It didn't feel like it but it was over a hundred degrees today. As you know, this area is very arid. They've warned us that conditions are good for heat sickness and heat strokes. They suggest staying inside in the air conditioning rather than going out.

At the moment, it is 94.5 degrees. You can see our outlook at: http://www.wunderground.com/US/NM/Las_Cruces.html?bannertypeclick=htmlSticker .

I need to go to the store. But I've elected to wait until tonight when it drops considerably more. I've got to go to the radio club meeting at 8 AM (the Treasurer has to be there, if possible).

I'm drinking lots of water and taking it easy. I've got studying to do for my summer courses (I'm taking one at NMSU and one at El Paso Community College). I guess I'll get it done over the weekend.

On June 1, I took and passed an FCC exam to obtain my GMDSS (General Mobile Distress and Safety Systems) Maintainer's license with a one hundred per cent score. It was on a computer and I finished it within five minutes. The examiner said that that had to be a record. The FCC issued the license today. You can see the result at: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=3203412 . Now I get to wait for the Postal Service to deliver the license to me.

I had to drive to Albuquerque as it was the closest place I can take the test.

That means I have passed all written amateur radio and all but one commercial radio exam given by the Federal Communications Commission. The remaining exam is for the GMDSS Operator's license. However, if I pass that one, they'll revoke my GMDSS Maintainer's license and issue me a license that combines the privileges of both licenses. But I've got to get through both of my summer classes before I can attempt that. I've already got my GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator's License), my T2 (Second Class Radiotelegraph Operator's License), my GMDSS Maintainer's license, and my Radar Endorsement (printed on all of my commercial licenses).

    Regards,

                                                                        Fred, WB4AEJ
